Sweet engine scoop. You have the intake routed to it or is it for looks?

No, the stock intake on 87+ cars is routed through the trunk so it’s already isolated from engine bay heat. The scoop was something I added after roasting an alternator at VIR. On SC cars the alternator is on the exhaust side of the engine like 3" from the manifold. After this, I took a “nuke the site from orbit” approach to the fix by installing a new distributor o-ring to make damn sure no oil ever leaks onto the alternator, adding the scoop so that the heat on that side can escape when sitting still, and will maybe join the air coming in from the factory side scoop when in motion, blowing more or less right on the alternator to keep it cool (a-la Celica All-trac alternator ducting due to turbo proximity), adding a ground cable to the alternator bracket, and eventually ditching the iron manifold in favor of factory tubular steel manifold off a 20v engine and wrapping it.

Cool! Yeah, I know about the trunk mount. It actually goes all the way around the trunk and into the right side wheelwell (or is it the side of the vent? I forget) which seems odd to me, but also made me wonder if you modified that to go into this for a ram air effect. The SC intake setup is also a mess, so I wasn’t sure if you got a custom intake or something and that was the easiest way to pull air from outside the bay. Mine’s stripped, so I just ganked the tubing and left the airbox housing open to the trunk.
